About the event

Join us on a unique walking tour of the city, highlighting diverse stories and untold histories.

Walking through the beautiful city centre, you will learn about the contentious state of historical memory, the impact of class and gender on the layout of the city, and uncover the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and racialised peoples from York's past.

This tour invites attendees to will see beneath the surface and uncover the lesser know histories of York.

The tour was written and researched by academic historians and is delivered by trained guides. It asks questions that provoke new ways of seeing the city landscape and its history.

This tour is being launched as part of a UK-wide expansion of the social enterprise Uncomfortable Oxford and is kindly supported by the University of York Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP).

*Accessibility:*

The tour features several stops around the centre of York over the course of 1.5 hours. Tour contains no stairs or curbs, but please note sometimes uneven pavement in the city centre and crowding on busy days.
