Uncomfortable York is a walking tour company in York that is dedicated to running tours that highlight diverse histories. We are academic project and certified social enterprise. Our walking tour guides are all students or scholars of history from the local universities in York, and they are experts in the topics we cover.
Uncomfortable York is the newest extension of Uncomfortable Oxford & Uncomfortable Cambridge! It was launched in May 2023 with support from the University of York's Institute for Public Understanding of the Past.
Through our academically researched and designed walking tours, we challenge attendees to think and reflect on how history is presented, while inspiring them to approach learning with an open and engaged mind.
Why choose our walking tours?
Choosing a York Uncovered Tour offers a unique and thought-provoking experience that will challenges your perspective, promote empathy and group discussion, and foster a deeper understanding of important social issues in the city of York.
Our tours aim to shed light on the lesser-known aspects of York's history, bringing attention to the role of women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of colour. The tours we give help to provide a greater appreciation for the diverse experiences of the city and create spaces for inclusion within York's past, and present.
